Jojk

Maj Lis Skaltje, 85 min, Sweden.

Yoik has been an unbroken tradition for thousands of years. It is the people's music, a music of reindeer herders and fishermen. But it is not undisputed. Yoik has been a capital offense because it was seen as witchcraft music. What is the cause that the music has survived both Christian missionaries and government agencies throughout the years? Via the history of yoik, we get a story about the Sami people, in a film with personal appeal and amazing images and music.
