Så Går Ett År - Tiden I Sjöbo

The film begins New Year's Eve 1986 at a funeral. The same day the old folks sitting municipality's oldest inhabitants - 103-year-old Elise Olsson - not knowing what day it is. The other old people see the annual reportage from the royal family. At the local dance hall celebrated midnight with the national anthem, and the home of Baron Hans pair and Madeleine Ramels manor held traditional speech before the new year. 

In the new year 1987, we encounter a wide range of profiles in the sparsely populated rural areas Sjöbogatan (15,000 inhabitants) in central Skåne - nobles, burghers and peasants. We follow them in their daily lives and share their thoughts on both Sjöbogatan, the passage of time and life. Carla Andersson and Allan Mansson takes joint care of the estate after the funeral in the film's beginning. They look back on their lives and the people they met while they devote the day to take care of their animals. Lennart Nyström talks about how he built up his lucrative real estate ownership in Sjöbogatan and how he got the municipality to contribute with more than a million for the rehabilitation of the old inn, which he bought and intend to rent to a restaurateur. In his 400-square-foot villa with indoor swimming pool he maintains that he and his wife are living as "ordinary, normal people." Later on he wins two million in the horse race V65. 

Local ICA retailer, called Hans-Hans, screaming out their extra prices from the balcony, proudly displays his multi-million turnover and market their products in a personal way in the store. Machinist in the village cinema, Flora, are waiting for his Polish wife to get an exit visa so that they can start a life together in Sjöbogatan. Danish-born Erik Hansen and his partner Astrid Skov, who has taken over the running of the venerable William Arnes Motor Circus where so called death riders on motorcycles in the velodrome perform outrageous stunts, are considering whether they will usually go out on tour again or if they'll quit for good. Some of the young people have formed the pop band This is pop? and singing darkly, melancholy songs about life's emptiness while they dream of getting away from Sjöbogatan to another and larger life. 

When the Municipality Chairman, centrist Sven-Olle Olsson, in the summer refuses 15 Lebanese refugees and plans to hold a referendum on the issue, shared residents' sympathies between those for and those against immigrants and refugees. Virulent demonstrations succeed each other in the square in the village. Madeleine Ramel, councilor for the Conservative Party offer their goods as refugee camps and subsequently receiving numerous threatening letters. Biografmaskinistens Polish wife arrive and are lovingly received by her husband at the ferry location in Ystad. Full of hope, she learns Swedish so she can start working in Sweden. 

Two of the young people in the pop band - Michael Jeppson and Ulrika Tuvesson - has moved from Sjöbogatan into Malmö and a shared apartment. They describe future stationary and bigotry in their community. Along with the rest of the band play some of his songs in a recording studio in Malmö. Erik Hansen and Astrid Skov goes after long reflections back on the road with its engine circus. Erik tells us that after his death would be burned and spread out over Kiviks market, where they hold an annual show. 

Sven-Olle Olsson refugee hostile position to win many supporters when he publicly go out and defend their views against the many attacks and the center of the party leadership's threat of exclusion in the fall. He celebrated with flowers by their enthusiastic supporters as a hero and the crowd enthusiastically shout "Sieg Heil". Property King Lennart Nyström try their newly restored Gästgiveri menu alone in the salon and tumbles fond around in his swimming pool. A farmer runs into their animals, and reflect on the past year on the farm.
