The Feminist

In her native Sweden, everybody has an opinion about feminist trailblazer Gudrun Schyman: superhero or villain. She has been through all the ups and downs of political life: a social worker rising to lead the Leftist party to record breaking election results; publicly shamed for her struggles with addiction; overcoming her demons, and founding Europe’s first feminist party. Through it all, Schyman has remained fiercely, unapologetically feminist, constantly working to raise the bar for equality in Sweden and in Europe.

The FEMINIST follows Schyman through daily life and political breakthroughs. With cameos from supporters Jane Fonda and Pharrell, the film paints a personal as well as political portrait of the woman behind the headlines, as she visits women in small towns in Sweden, refugee camps in Greece, and in the corridors of power in Brussels. Everywhere she goes, she lights the fire of fellow feminists, blazing a trail forward.

Director: The FEMINIST will be HAMPUS LINDER’S ninth documentary. His previous film, The Art of Being Human, was in competition at Leipzig DOK. He has also worked as a DOP for other director’s films, among those Sara Broos’ prize winning films For you naked and Reflections.

Producer: HELENE GRANQVIST is an award winning producer. Helene is since 2013 the president of WIFT Sweden and an initiator of WIFT Nordic. She’s a member of EFA and also works as a pitch coach all over Europe.
