Doc Lounge coming to Sundsvall, Sweden
On April 23, the brand new Doc Lounge Sundsvall are opening their doors at the beautiful Sveateatern! Their first screening will be of Fredrik Gertten’s Bikes vs Cars, and will be accompanied by DJ Kung Knas and a visit from two urban planners who will discuss the issues raised by the film on a local level. You can read more about the new club in Sundsvall Tidning (link in Swedish).
Sundsvall will be the second Doc Lounge in northern Sweden, following Doc Lounge Östersund that opened in February 2015, as a part of a larger project financed by the Post Code Lottery’s Culture Foundation. It’s the brainchild of Anders Justin, who has been wanting to bring Doc Lounge there for a long time. He’s just been waiting for the right moment - and most importantly, the right people.
“You don’t want to ‘burn’ such a great a concept,” he explained, “so it took a while to find people to carry the Doc Lounge flag here. But after meeting Sofie and Oskar I felt, yes! They are perfect! Everyone here are super dedicated to Doc Lounge, I’m so glad they took the initiative - we can’t wait to get started!”
