In Becoming Zlatan we follow the great football player Zlatan Ibrahimović, from his debut in Malmö FF in 1999, through his conflictual years with Ajax Amsterdam, up to the final breakthrough with Juventus in 2005. Throughout his journey, Zlatan stays true to himself. When he finally succeeds in Italy he is closing the doors to his private life. Football superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic is an enigma, but in this story from his breakthrough years, he - for a moment - gives some glimpses into who he really is.
“When we first met Zlatan we met a young, open football player who went straight through the screen and we fell in love with his directness. He has an honesty and openness that has also made him a lot of enemies over the years,” Fredrik Gertten said in a press statement earlier this year.
Fredrik Gertten has previsouly made Bananas!*, Big Boys Gone Bananas!* and Bikes vs Car and Magnus Gertten has previsouly made Harbour of Hope, Tusen Bitar and Every Face Has a Name.
Becoming Zlatan is presented in collaboration with Moving Docs - a EDN initiative supported by Creative Europe, with the aim to create innovative outreach strategies and provide opportunities for urban and rural European audiences to enjoy regular screenings of documentary films through a wide variety of media and platforms.
