Oscar winning Citizenfour coming to Doc Lounge!
A few hours ago it won an Oscar and we're very happy to be able to announce that we'll be screening Citizenfour, Laura Poitras' new documentary about NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, at Doc Lounge! Exact dates and venues will be announced soon. Stay tuned.
Citizenfour is truly a real life thriller, following Poitras and journalist Glenn Greenwald as they meet up with Snowden for the first time and try to weather the storm his explosive leaks about the NSA surveillance programs unleash on the world. But as the film makers themselves point out, Citizenfour doesn't only show you the dangers of government surveillance - you will also feel it and "never think the same way about your phone, email, credit card, web browser, or profile, ever again".
Citizenfour won the Oscar for Best documentary feature at the 87th Academy Awards on February 22, 2015. Congratulations to the team for their incredible work! See the trailer below and we hope to see you at our screenings of this contemporary and important film.
Citizenfour is the third film in a trilogy that started with Poitras' My Country, My Country in 2006. Doc Lounge has previously shown the second installment in the trilogy, The Oath (2010).
