Doc Lounge Stockholm opens their spring season with the Swedish premier of Janis - Little Girl Blue, a poetic and facinating film about the extra ordinary, but short, life of Janis Joplin 8th of March. Janis - Little Girl Blue will then be screened at Doc Lounge Malmö and Doc Lounge Lund the 16th of March and later this spring at Doc Lounge Göteborg and Doc Lounge Växjö.
Academy® Award-nominated director Amy Berg and Academy® Award-winning producer Alex Gibney strip away Janis Joplin’s rock ‘n roll persona in Janis: Little Girl Blue, to reveal the gentle, trusting, sensitive but powerful woman behind the legend, in this quintessential story of the short, turbulent, and epic existence that changed music forever.Janis serves as the narrator for her own life story via the intimate, personal letters she wrote to her family, friends, and lovers. From her childhood in small-town Texas where she was bullied at school and fought against inequality she began to craft her rebellious, free-spirited image, including her trademark soulful voice, which ultimately took her away from home to pursue her dreams of stardom.
And when those dreams did come true, she shone like a supernova. Her talent and magnetism is evident in rarely and never-before-seen footage of Janis performing at Monterey Pop in 1967, Woodstock in 1969, and Festival Express in 1970. These as well as her other live performances, along with her hit records, allowed Janis to break through the glass ceiling and inspire a generation by showing the world that women could rock just as hard as men. Featuring a soundtrack of Janis’ greatest hits – including Cry Baby, Mercedes Benz, Piece of My Heart, and many more -- Janis: Little Girl Blue joins the pantheon of great music documentaries by providing a glimpse into the private life and inner struggles of one of the world’s most influential rock icons.
The film is shown in collaboration with SVT and will be broadcasted the 9th of April.
